The Village Storytelling Centre are internationally recognised as leaders in applied storytelling and offer story-based encounters across Glasgow and the West of Scotland. This Woman’s voice is their three year storytelling and cross-arts project platforming voices of women in Glasgow and denouncing gender-based violence. They are collaborating with nine organisations whose work protects, supports and advocates for women.

September is a collaboration between Shona Cowie at the Village Story Telling Centre and Lababa Naqvi. This project was funded by the Womens Fund for Scotland.

The text of a story written out by Shona Cowie and the women of the Friendship Group of Amina, the Muslim Women’s Resource Centre and illustrations by their own Illustrator Lababa Naqvi, a fine artist from Pakistan.

My brief was to use the text and illustrations to design and produce a short book that brought all these elements together and presented them in a clean, tidy and inspiring layout. I used simple colours and text with the illustrations providing the basis of the content.
